Have you ever known a woman or man to suffer from infertility? Infertility can be an emotionally devastating condition that causes he or she can feel incomplete as a man or woman, feel incomplete as a spouse, feel ostracized from society or feel anxious, depressed or angry.

What is infertility? It is a symptom the body’s way of alerting us that something is wrong. Well then, what is wrong and are their natural solutions and what does any of this have to do with chiropractic anyway? Let’s play jeopardy. Infertility often reflects an imbalance in someone. Clue, examples include estrogen, testosterone and progesterone. The answer is hormones. The hormonal system is one of the most vital and delicate systems of the body. Infertility drugs are commonly sought, but are they the answer? Is infertility caused by being born with not enough hormone balancing medication in the body?

Of course not and infertility drugs have been known to result in twins, triplets and more. Not necessarily what a couple wants and risky for the fetuses.

Where do reproductive hormones come from? Their release into the body is controlled by the hypothalamus, a small yet vital part of the brain. The hypothalamus, as well as all parts of the hormonal system, is highly sensitive to stress. Changes in function of the hypothalamus due to stress can decrease ovulation and sperm count. High levels of the stress hormone cortisol can shut off menstruation. The result? Often times infertility.

Quiz time. A menstrual cycle that has stopped, is a condition called. Answer: Amenorrhea. A = lack of Menorrhea = menstruation. A stressed hypothalamus cannot properly release reproductive hormones. Question. How does stress get to the hypothalamus and where does stress come from? Through the nerves. The hypothalamus is controlled by nerves. The nerves come from the spine. Stress causes the spine to misalign and nerves can become compressed. Compressed nerves cannot effectively control the hypothalamus. Reproductive hormones will not be properly released.

It’s called subluxation. A condition in which a spinal segment is out of alignment with the adjacent segment. Nerves, which branch off of the spinal cord, no longer properly work. Stress can originate from three sources: physical like poor posture, chemical like too much sugar and emotional like depression. Release of subluxations has been know to restore fertility because the hypothalamus can work again. All naturally. Infertility may be prevented by simply ensuring that the nerves work. This is the job of a chiropractor. Wow.
